We all know that a city without its own museum is not a city. The Rijeka Museum awaits its visitors in the Governor’s Palace Park. The activity of this institution can be seen on different plans, which include collecting, elaboration and restoration of the material, research of the city (and not only) past and organising exhibitions about important historical themes. Its assets include material brought together in several collections. The music collection stores excellently preserved musical instruments and devices for sound reproduction, the fine arts collection works of art by artists who lived and created in Rijeka and a collection of documentary material with various kinds of documents from past city life. At the same time there are philately and photographic collections as well as theatre and film materials, weapons, media arts and crafts, and a numismatic collection, valuable documents, medals and awards and the “varia“ collection (in which a variety of other various objects are preserved).
